Turkish coffeeis a beverage that has always been a part of Turkish culture. Sometimes people drink it for enjoying but sometimes it is used to predict the past and the future. And sometimes, art is practiced on it. It is the indispensable factor for the first step into marriage. There were poems and songs written for it. An example for it: ‘Heart wants neither coffee nor café, heart wants chat, coffee is an excuse’.
People should know how to make and drink it. Serving is even important. It is served on the silver trays with ornamented covers and then you feel the difference.
THE HISTORY OF TURKISH COFFEE
Turkish coffee is famous for its history as well as its unique taste. It is told in the books that Özdemir Pasha, the governor of Yemen, brewed the coffee. Although it was forbidden for being a sin for a while, it became irreplaceable in our culture. The first serial production and the sale date back to the 18th century. Preparing the coffee requires skill and knowledge. Everybody can make the coffee, but if that person doesn’t know how to make it, then the coffee doesn’t give its real taste. Firstly, the coffee should be fresh. It is important that the coffee should be drunk slowly but before it goes bad. This is the first rule while preparing the coffee.
It is told that a single cup of coffee is remembered for 40 years. In order to provide this respect, a cup of water and a full coffee spoon of coffee are put into the coffee pot for each cup. You can also add sugar.
Another rule is that the coffee should be heated up slowly. When it starts to have foam on it, the foam is put in each cup equally. When the coffee starts to boil, more coffee is poured into the cups. After heating up the coffee a little bit more, all the coffee is put and served. It is most delicious when it is made on the barbeque. Today copper ornamented coffee pots are still produced and they are put into the wedding chests of our daughters.
