Turkish Republic history

folly of WW1? Are you saying that the politicians who created an alliance system that led to WW1 are somehow less culpable than the idiot generals they sent to run the war? Do not mistake tactical error for strategic error. Turkey is going fascist and they needed that reminder (even though it would be damned nice if the USA apologized for NA genocide and African slavery). If that angers them, well, how is that any more angering than not letting the USA use Turkish bases to invade Iraq (it s not the principle, it s the circumstance)? No, history…

Turkish Baths Harrogate history

Orget taking tea in Betty’s famous cafe, the real treat, I think, should you be in the genteel north Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate is a visit to to the beautifully restored Victorian Turkish Baths. I thought it would be interesting to take a tour, once inside I really wished I had left time to experience the whole ritual of heating, cooling and cleansing in these fantastical surroundings. Somehow Moorish designs, oriental motifs and touches of Victorian decor meld together brilliantly to create a unique effect. The baths opened in 1897 as part…

Turkish Republic Northern Cyprus history

Now it is time you were allowed to graduate! Friday November 15th 2013 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a nation state which was almost certainly created as a result of the frustrations that arose from eight years of intransigence on the part of the Greek Cypriots. Whilst a Population Exchange Agreement had been signed between the parties on August 2nd 1975, under the auspices of the UN, all attempts to negotiate a settlement were futile. Glefcos Clarides had made it quite clear to his Turkish…

History of Turkish Empire in Urdu

About a year ago, I began watching a Turkish historical soap opera called Muhtesem Yzyil (Magnificent Century) about Sleyman the Magnificent s life, loves, and military campaigns. I was hooked, even though only one episode, the first, has English subtitles. From the second episode on I ve had to rely on my imperfect Turkish. Fortunately, I do understand Turkish, having been married for 20 years to a Turk and having lived in Turkey long enough to learn the language. I did have to learn some new expressions in order to appreciate Magnificent Century…

Once opened the shalvar looks like this: You can turn over the top, stitch it and make a place inside for the belt (the belt should not be fixed to the shalvar). One thing I noticed in my last visit to the Topkapi Palace, some shalvars have a strip attached at the bottom to go under the foot. I assume this was the Shalvar to prevent from sliding upwards when riding. Alright this is me wearing my shalvar, compared to the miniatures it looks similar: Some more museum pieces to give you an idea:

Turkish Royal history

He was a young boy of Royal Heritage. His parents were devout Catholic. As a little boy he was made captive by Turkish Islamics. He was brutalized and required to memorize everything of the Koran. As a teenager, he found out the truth of what the Islamics did to his parents (they were tortured and murdered). He determined (after he went crazy w/grief) that he would drink the blood of every islamic & barbarically impale every one he could capture. It is a horrific bit of human history. Later on Bram Stoker based his dracula stories on vlad the…

History Turkish towels

A Turkish towel is essentially a bath towel which measures about 35 inches (90 cm) by 43 inches (110 cm). It is made of cotton or linen that is woven in a certain way to be especially luxurious. It is uncertain exactly when these weaving techniques began to be used, but Turkish towels have become famous all over the world, including in the West. Turkey has historically been one of the world’s largest producers and weavers of cotton. Even today, Turkey has a place as one of the top three suppliers of cotton towels in the world. As far as when and…
